Spray Masking

I'm planning to do some custom painting and received recommendation to use Spray Masking to section off certain areas while painting.

Do any of you agree with this recommendation or is there a better way? If you agree, please explain to me how it works.

thanks, SL

Silly putty is all i use. Wont stick and can reuse it over and over till its down right rotton glob of paint and putty. Which takes a lot of use.

Wont stick to the paint by peeling it off, but holds it for the the statue for awhile. unless you are in a hot room or over time can melt with gravity. But if you use it in a few hours session its perfect.

At times i have left it on a statue over night till the next day but had to keep the area cool so it wouldnt melt down. like a hot apartment in the summer when not home having the air conditioner turned off.

Least thats my experience.

Have you heard of any bad experiences with Spray Masking?

Thanks for your input. I'll play it safe and stick with Silly Putty.

I've used liquid mask that could be dilluted and sprayed. I used it on lexan R/C car bodies and it works great. The only thing is that you have to cut away the areas that you want to paint. So, it might not be the best method for statues. Unless, you can airbrush it on without overspray. I've only brushed it on so, I would know about that.
