That Strange painting just makes me smile, he is a different artist now.
My cheeky piece.

I find his quality varies quite a bit. The first two DK3 covers he did? Spectacular. Everything after that feels like it was less detailed and just less impressive.
I do know he's extremely fast. That massive Batman/Superman issue 50 cover-duo he did was completed in a week, I believe.

I have two pieces by Gab and they are two of my favorites.
One I got at auction and the other was canvas painting on the cheap that was only $350ish shipped.
I'd be up for getting another but the 5K and up asking price on most of the ones I like keeps me at bay.
Has anyone ever had any success sending an offer over to the rep?

Love that Joker!
As for Gabe being a different artist now, I would agree with you. However, I think it's also a time issue. My sense is that he doesn't need to invest that much time in a piece anymore. He's so in demand, and then there's all the convention appearances. Most artists kind of lose some of their intensity with age and fame. There are a number of pieces which match the quality of the Strange, all of which seem to be from the same era (i.e., 10+ years ago)

DC has been hammering him with covers lately too, which likely isn't helping matters. Some of the early DK3 covers were phenomenal and a few other DC covers (Harley and a couple Trinity covers) were up to the quality we're used to from Gabe. I don't think that he's a completely different artist now (although I wont argue the mastery of the strange piece...amazing), but I just think he's probably doing too many covers these days.
But, in saying that, I'll always approach anything he does with the "favorite artist can do no wrong" goggles on

First two DK3 covers and the Batman/TMNT are among if not his best works IMO. DK3 covers got progressively "meh" after those. Also, Bulletproof Comix shop in NYC is commissioning him, not DC directly.

I remember seeing the DK3 variant for #1 for the first time...arguably one of my favorite all-time bats images, but c'mon all you DC junkies...you know Gabe's best work is at marvel
