The HDD and blu ray drive are separate. The HDD is a 2 minute swap that is easily accessible by popping off the top plastic piece. They made it simple to get to as they knew people would intend on upgrading it.

The BRD is tucked away (totally separate area).

oh ok, i wasnt sure beucase on the PS3 the movies and games all go in the same slot.

so does the PS4 have a separate slot for the BRD? or is it that the BRD goes to the BRplayer when inserted?

You are confusing some terms and devices.

A HDD is a hard disk drive. It is a self-contained magnetic data storage medium. It allows reading and writing to it. If you choose to upgrade it, you replace the whole device.

An optical drive, like CD, DVD, or Bluray, uses discs that are inserted. The discs (game or movie) store the data and are read by the drive. They cannot be written to (for the purpose of this explanation, I'm just referring to game consoles).

The optical drives in all game consoles to date have never been meant to be upgraded by the user.

yeah this whloe upgrading is all new to me.
i dont know my ass from my elbow on what is connected with what and what reads what or how it all works.

but i do understand what you just told me. so for that i thank you.

so if i do do the upgrade it has nothing to do with the BRD player in the console. only the HDD. got it.

I don't think Sony has ever come out and said "buy this HDD" but pretty much any Laptop (9.5mm) HDD will work in the system.

I've been using this one for nearly a year now with no problems (picked it up when it was on sale though): http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16822178340

and trust me, changing a HDD will not void a warranty. Its an advertised feature. Also, its cheaper to buy an extended warranty through Sony than Best Buy (Sony is nearly half the price as BB for the same period of time in Canada at least). The only reason to use Best Buy is for the sheer convenience factor. You can buy an extended warranty right in the PSN online store when you have the system.
well they do have this article on the PlayStation site.. https://support.us.playstation.com/a...pgrade-ps4-hdd

was just wondering whats the best one to get is all.
like i said, this whole upgrading thing is all new to me and i just want to do it right and with the best thats out there.

You're welcome, and you've got it correct now.

I have not upgraded a PS4 or XBone hard drive yet, but the best info I've read was at Digital Foundry.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-upgrade-guide

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...our-ps4-to-2tb

The second link is an update.

Digital Foundry is very technical(and British, so the quoted prices are in pounds), but they discuss the merits of different hard drive technologies (there is newer technology such as solid-state and hybrid drives, in addition to the magnetic drives I mentioned before). There are pros and cons, and of course size versus price, to be considered.

Can you updgrade the Xbone? I have not read anything previous in this thread, but I thought the HD was proprietary, meaning, not a laptop drive and if you want to upgrade you had to buy the HD from MS (if you could). This was one of the reason I bought the Call of Duty Xbone, which comes with a 1TB drive.

I misspoke when I said "I have not upgraded a PS4 or XBone hard drive yet, but the best info I've read was at Digital Foundry." in the post above.

As was pointed out earlier in the thread, you cannot upgrade the Xbone hard drive like you can with the PS4, but you can add an external HDD via USB.

The limited edition 20th anniversary PS4's were sold online on Sony's website. They sold out in minutes. Of course they are eBay right now. One is over $10,000.00 as I right this
