Who is your Favorite Writer?
I'm shocked that I couldn't find a thread like this started by Gramps (unless I didn't search good enough).
But Who is your favorite comic writer past or present and why?
I've got a few but to start there are two names when I see them on a book I know I'll enjoy it. Garth Ennis & Peter David. Always enjoyed both of their writing in all different series.

Steve Englehart.
it was his early run on Silver Surfer with Marshall Rogers that filled me with wonder and hooked me onto comics. from finally being free from Earth and returning to Zenn-la to be rejected by the woman he loved most, to the Kree-Skrull conflict coming to a head, to a plot by the Elders to kill Galactus, a fight between Big G himself and the In-betweener, and a love triangle with Mantis and Nova, all going on at the same time! that was nearly 3 years worth of awesome cosmic storytelling! then later i discovered his earlier work on Batman, with Rogers again (what a great team!). he's just written some great stories with my favourite characters!
a close second would be Starlin, also because of his Surfer arc, that led to Thanos Quest and the Infinity trilogy, and his Warlock stuff. i probably love Starlin's work more, but i have to put Englehart first because he really captured my imagination and got me hooked on the cosmic stuff.
there are a few writers i'd give anything they're on a try - Geoff Johns, Robert Kirkman, Brian Vaughan, Ed Brubaker, Mark Waid.

If you'd have asked me this question 10 years ago, I could answer it easily; however, in that intervening period, many of my favorite writers have released some utter crap, so that makes it much more difficult.
Just based on the number of titles I have from him in my collection, I'd have to say Alan Moore.

Love Ed Brubaker - His Cap and Daredevil run have been fantastic!!
I loved Chris Claremont's run on X-Men back in the day, nothing current of course.
Garth Ennis - Preacher was Awesome!!
Bendis - I love his crime stories like Torso, and Fire, and couple of others that escape me at the moment. I loved his DD run, and I really enjoy his work on Civil War and Secret Invasion.
Kirkman - Walking Dead, Invincible
G Johns - his Flash run was AMAZING!
Every one who was involoved with Annihilation! I loved this story!

In the 80's Chris Claremont, John Byrne, Marv Wolfman, Roger Stern and Jim Starlin could do no wrong. The 90's were like a blur to me but I believe Peter David was the most consistant writer overall IMO. Recent writers that always do a good job IMO are Yost, Brubaker and Johns.
