this is the piece I am in the process of getting, and that gave me the idea.

How common is it these days for the backgrounds to be printed and the figures to be inked?

I know this is a hit to the long term value.
That is production art and totally different IMHO. If that is how the art was done in the production process for the publication of the comic I just see this as the method the artist used to create the page. Being sold as a set is a plus in my eyes. I would not alter production art.

Oh sorry. Let me clarify. This is what planted the seed. That and John Byrne charges double to put a background. If I go a single figure no back ground I could get a background and another piece for the difference.

Oh gotcha.

So, you are looking to get a Byrne single character and have someone add backgrounds? If so, who are you thinking?

I am still in the process of deciding. x-men days of future past was really big for me but so was alpha flight.

I am trying to figure out if i want to go single figure route or save up for a bigger one.

I was also looking at Paul Smith. (I started collecting comics with the brood war)

My advice (FWIW) would be to save up and get that piece that is in your mind that is “THE” piece. I would suspect that you will be glad you did, especially as time goes by.

Are Byrne’s rates posted somewhere?
