Doctor Strange Movie
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/228...ript-completed
Short piece over at DarkHorizons discussing the finishing of the Dr. Strange script. "The comic follows a New York surgeon who suffers injuries in a car crash, awakening to find himself endowed with great psychic powers." ....ummm, awakening to find himself endowed w/ psycic powers? - What the heck happened to the real origin story which could easily be filmed. Does this mean no Wong, no Ancient One, no Sorceror Supreme? Realize we're just at the beginning, but why do writers constantly re-tweek what doesn't need to be touched iin the 1st place?

Why? Because these writers need to convince themselves they created Dr. Strange, or at the very least, improved upon the original idea. Either way, it comes off as an ego thing. The Lee/Ditko concept could have easily worked today. Baron Mordo would have made for an excellent villain, as would the Dread Dormmammu. Clea would have made a great love interest as well.
Psychic powers... Pffft. This isn't Dr. Strange. Next thing you know, they'll make Spidey's webs organic, or make Dr. Doom a businessman on Wallstreet, or make Hulk grow as big as a house... Oh wait.

I wish they'd give the movie Doc the same characteristics as the Super Hero Squad cartoon Doc Strange....and let Jim Carey play him, lol!

Off-topic for a sec., but Risingstar, I think your argument could also be applied to many working within the comics industry too.

I think comic writers typically try to modernize characters in order to maintain some sort of fresh appeal to them. I can generally support that. However, movie writers often make comic characters unrecognizeable. There's a difference, I think. The only defence of movie writers I can think of is that they want the movie to have some surprises in store for fans of the comics so that the film isn't entirelly predictable. Sadly, they fail in this regard too because if the characters aren't who we typically know them to be then we aren't going to enjoy them in the same way. JMO.

How can my interest peak and bottom out with one sentence?
Please don't do this to Dr. Steve. He deserves better...

Hoping that was just misquoted. Obviously Marvel isn't against using "magic" in their movies because that's what Loki does already.
