So this morning was the first real morning with frost. I left for work and my daughter's car had frost on it and my wife could not find a scraper so she used a spatula to scrap it. Yes, I said a spatula. Apparently there are now scratches in the window. Not sure how deep or bad they are but has anyone ever tried to buff out scratches or am I just hosed?

I would think the scratches would be superficial at most, but.. damn.

Plenty of services offer windshield scratch repair, (Safelite, etc), but... I also drive my Forester on the beach, so I'm probably not the expert on keeping windshields .. or the chassis... pristine. I've used Safelite, though.. they're quick and inexpensive, especially if you can work your deductible into it.

Another thing to do, which I'm sure you've already thought of, is to call your local AAA office and ask for their recommendation on anywhere local that can help you with window repair.

I have never tried to buff out scratches myself, no.

If the glass is cracked, you can have a repair glass place fill in the cracks with resin. I had a crack on my windshield that was filled in with resin 4 years ago and it never got any worse.

Now with scratches im not sure of, its possible that those places can fill in the scratches with resin too. But even if they can you wont see a clear window, will sure to be marks all over it.

Then need to look into laws in case scratches will pass inspection.

Check local areas for places that fill in windshield cracks, they will come to your job and fill in the cracks while you are working. Costed me like $70 for the crack and has a lifetime warranty in case it cracks more down the line. They will come refill the crack. if the crack keeps on going, they will replace the window etc...

main concern with scratches is if the resin doesnt give you a flush smooth surface, you will just tear your wiper blades if its the front window. if its back window with no wiper wont need to worry much. If its the side windows, going up and down could tear the rubber on the door to keep water out.

Find a real good buffer & get some glass wax IMO, their superficial & you'll pay to much to get a place to do the car w/ their resin.
