Man that's unfortunate, some of the carriers used overseas really beat up boxes.
With only 300 made, we don't have spare parts or boxes.
I'd get with the distributor asap and see if they have a replacement.

Great box art, but all I care about is the stuff inside. This is a none issue for me.

Yeah. Looking at those pics, I wouldn't worry about the shipper at all, and the art box just needs a bit of clear tape and if you worried about how it looks, smooth that bit out and then tape it on the inside

I've had a little go at it (don't want to do to much until the distributor gets back to me). Unfortunately it is quite damaged. I can smooth the inside (and possibly add some tape) but I can not smooth etc. the outside without causing more damage. The box has a matt varnish on it - so any ironing with a hot iron etc. will dis-colour the finish.
Previously (when I worked in the design/printing industry) - if I had a damaged box, I would scan the area, photoshop the damage out and print out a sticker to match exactly. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment at hand these days.
thx217 - maybe we should swap boxes

As a fellow collector who appreciates pristine boxes - and I do appreciate that bitter-sweet feeling which can taint a high-end item you receive - I'm not sure if it will give you any peace of mind, but I don't think that is too bad at all. As far as the shipper, I've had some arrive alot worse, and if it came to re-selling, i'd just put a thin piece of foam there even though if that was a weak spot I'm sure there would've been damage upon opening (which there wasn't). As for the product box, I think that's fine. Of course we don't desire these things, but it would bother me alot more if it was caved in etc. and if those are the only markings, I highly doubt there is any damage, and if you re-sold it I'm sure the buyer would realise that to.
Not sure if it will help, but I know a nice clear tape that will make it less evident or intrustive there is tape on there. Since ure aussie and rather than waiting for something in the mail, go down to your local Woolies (or other - i don't affiliate woolworths, in fact I think they're kinda over-priced ) and buy some sellotape 'gift tape'. Don't fall for their 'invisbile tape' - it actually has a frost finish and is slightly glossy , but the gift tape on alot of surfaces is hard to pick it is even on there after application.
Waiting for in-hand pics and status on this thing is the biggest tease ever

Thanks premium_substit
The shipper box - I'm not concerned about (although when I first saw the ratchet strap indent in the box, I thought the whole box was caved it - had to smooth that out just so I could get the inner box out! Wasn't until then I noticed the hole going through both boxes). I'm more concerned about the damage done to the product box itself.
Yes, the hole isn't too bad - but it is there and &*^% me no end (some things I can live with, some things I can not - OK I'm fussy ). I'm sure the distributor will blame Aust Post. Aust Post will blame someone else etc. Just hope we can come to some agreement. (This is after I purchased Cain the other week and they gave me an ex display piece without telling me or offering me a choice! I decided to let that issue go.)

Personally I don't see anyone caring about the box. Is the box that big of a deal in this part of the hobby? I get it. I'd want my box mint, too. I just don't think that box damage is going to suddenly lower the value of the piece itself in anyone's mind. If they have an option they might choose to buy someone else's with a mint box over yours, but 300 total in existence is 300...
Also I'm not so sure I would have let the Cain thing go. You paid for him. You darn well should be getting him, and not a used display piece...
Seriously, you're a bigger man than I because I never would have let them get away with that. Ever. Either I pull my Cain out of it's box brand spanking new or I want my 1200+ dollars back, and that's me. You probably paid more than that.

Enforcer - don't get me wrong, I was &^%$ about the Cain thing too - especially after reading their terms and conditions. But given it was the last available in Australia (although now there looks like another shipment due in Aug/Sept) I didn't really have a choice (bar buying direct from Chronicle - but given the $AUD at the moment.....) It would have been nice though if they told me and/or offered me a discount etc. rather than shipping it out like nobody would notice.
Anyway I'm using that problem as some sort of leverage to this issue now.
I'm hoping if they have ED209 on display they maybe willing to swap out the boxes.
Yes, in the grand scheme of things the box is the least important - but you know what we are like as collectors

Personally I don't think that's bad ,I think the longer you collect the more you realise the box is just for shipping or storage resale value should not be affected.

True. But then there are some pieces, like this, where damage to anything, box or otherwise, is extremely disappointing (and, to me, ruins the overall enjoyment).
I've been collecting for well over ten years - mainly as an MOC Collector (or nearest to) - so getting a damaged box......... If it was a cheaper item, I probably wouldn't care so much.
I know of collectors who crack the &/@% even if the shipper is damaged!
