There was a thread about this not too long ago. It probably won't happen but since DC does not exactly have ownership of the character the possibility exists.

Boy, I'm not. I stopped enjoying Supes (with a few notable exceptions) back in the early 80s. I loved the 50s-70s Superman stories. Nowadays, I've tried to get back into Superman, for old times sake, but it's just not the same.
I like my Superman earthbound and hyper-powerful. The sci-fi stuff just leaves me cold.

The problem isn't DC right now.
Paul Levitz probably realizes all of this.
They realize that Superman is their flagship characters
It's the moron's at Time Warner that are too cheap to shell out the cash, while they have their limos drive them to one of their multiple homes.
Have to love big business

If DC loses Superman it would be because of their own stupidity. Marvel shouldn't touch this because how do you fit him in with all the years of DC history? Right now Marvel has too many Supermen as it is and a few need to go away to thin out the herd. Sentry can go right now and I won't miss him one bit.

Wasn't there a concept or something about Marvel taking over the DC Universe for a year and vice versa. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know. I haven't read comics in years, but I think it might be a decent experiment, or maybe something a little more compact. Like each company publishing a limited number of the other company's biggest titles. Not a rip-off character, but the actual guy/girl with the same name, supporting cast, villians, secret ID. There could be some minor liberty taken with costume design, but not too much. So for EX, marvel gets Superman, Batman, WW, JLA and Legion. DC gets Spiderman, Hulk, Iron Man, FF or Avengers, and X-Men. Or something along those lines.
6-issue arcs for each.
Wonder what would happen. What it would look like. How it would sell. Hey, and a portion of the proceeds could go to charity.

There's no way DC loses Superman, regardless of what happens. I think a lot of that talk is just empty fanboy panic. There's a good, sensible article about it all here that seems to me to be far more reflective of the reality of this whole situation.
