Drinking is only a problem if it causes problems, so I'd say no. I believe that Wolvie could easily do without alcohol, he just chooses not to.

Does the healing factor also prevent Wolvie from getting a beer gut?

he could get drunk back in the 80s' but not for long. his healing factor would sober him up. he even told that to kitty when he was stumbling around the grounds. the way his healing factor is now i doubt he could get drunk at all.

I don't think so, since he can't really get drunk. It's like Bender from Futurama and his smoking habit, he does it just to look cool.

Wolvie is definitely an alcoholic, albeit a relatively functional one.

That's an interesting view and approach to alcoholism. Some might argue that excessive drinking, in and of itself, is already a problem.
Also, to respond to another post, Wolvie does feel a buzz when he drinks. He just doesn't generally feel plastered, at least not for long. If there was no pleasure or sense at all in drinking, he wouldn't do it at all. And, he certainly doesn't do it to look "cool" as that would imply a measure of insecurity that doesn't fit the profile of the character. If it did, his alcoholism would take on a whole new meaning as would his seemingly death-wish approach to fighting. Ultimately, Wolvie does what he does because he likes it. He's generally been vulnerable to his primal urges and instincts. That's the sociopath in him.
Bizarre views in this thread.

I'd agree with this, though I think it's a behavioral addiction, not a chemical one. Which only means that his system doesn't crave it--so he can go long periods without drinking, or going through any sort of withdrawl.
The interesting thing about Logan is that he is perhaps the most functional alcoholic ever in the history of alcoholics, since he never really gets drunk. He can drink and drink and drink, and he just gets a slight buzz for a short while. Easily overcome, especially if a situation arises that requires his immediate attention.
So Wolverine is perhaps the only alcoholic that can literally drink all the time, but never really show any of the adverse results of that drinking. No health issues, no incapacity due to drunkenness, no blackouts, etc.

Funniest poll ever.
Don't alcoholics rely on booze to function? Wolverine's "addiction" seems to be whetting his claws with the blood of the enemy.. haha. If he didn't have the healing factor to negate intoxication, I'd assume he wouldn't drink as much as he does now, however... lest he stab someone in a brawl, or hurt himself in some fashion.
