"Soon I Will Be Invincible"

My wife bought this novel for me for Hanukkah and, I have to say, it was a lot of fun to read.

It's a superhero novel with all new characters. The narration alternates between the evil genius villain, Doctor Impossible, and the new recruit, call Fatale, to the hero team called The New Champions. Fatale is a young woman horribly injured in an accident who was rebuilt as a cyborg, kind of like the Six Million Dollar Man.

The book's about 300 pages and the author does a great job of introducing you to all the heroes, their powers and histories, the interpersonal dynamics, and setting up the big conflict toward which the whole novel builds.

The action and fight scenes are really well written and I actually could imagine Alex Ross paintings of them, like out of Kingdom Come, with the street fighting and collateral damage.

Not great literature by any means, but a fun new book for any superhero fan.

...and, yes, the cover does look like a rip off of the Lord Thor helmet:

Hey Joe! I read this one a few months ago and would agree with you. It's a quick read and a fun one. I really enjoyed it and thought it was quite funny in parts.

The UK cover is by Bryan Hitch. This is the biggest image of the cover I can find.

I saw this on Google Images. The US version should have had this cover.

NOW THAT!.. is a COVER!
This would actually make me pick the book up.
It could be a great book but with the US cover, and the amount of books to choose from out there,I would have passed it up.
WKTF's review helps so maybe I'll give this a shot if I can find it.
