Yes I always know the scales of what I work on. It's important. The final scale can affect how much detail will go into a piece, obviously the smaller a sculpt will be you won't need to sculpt hyper details like skin pores, textures etc because they will be lost in the output. For sculpts that will be smaller scale you do have to accentuate certain details so they will be seen and printed correctly in the final piece.
With that said, I still like to add an adequate amount of detail no matter what scale the final sculpt will be in. It's the artist in me.
Some of the smaller McFarlane Walking Dead and Game of Thrones miniature stuff I did was very detailed even though I knew alot of the detail would be lost in the final figures. The detail was requested by the art directors so thats what I did. Hope that helps.
