Shouldn't Billy be pretty darn kidish though?

Yeah, that’s my point. This looks pretty spot on as far as I can tell. I’ve never been a big Shazam/Captain Marvel fan myself. The character and concept are just a bit too cheesy for my tastes. That said it appears to be a pretty faithful adaptation. If it’s not your thing I get it, but I don’t understand why actual fans of the character would be disappointed in what’s being shown.

I like it because it doesn't feel at all Snyder-ish. Can't say the same about Aquaman.

Depends on which version of the character we’re talking about. This is closer to the recent New 52 Geoff Johns/Gary Frank work than what came before it.

Looks fine. Really heavy on the Geoff Johns new 52 origin side of the things, it seems. But no Black Adam right ? I'm ok with that, if they will make an R Rated Black Adam film, with Black Adam really getting brutal like that time how he killed the psycho pirate and stuff.

I thought the same. I actually like the Geoff Johns/Gary Frank version. I thought it was very faithful to the original yet put a nice modern spin on the character. I have not decided if I am going to be buying the upcoming series or not though (to me it would be hard to top Jerry Ordway's Power of Shazam graphic novel and series).

This could be a fun movie. I've been a fan of Zach Levi since his days on Chuck, so I may give it a whirl.

Outside of guest appearances in other DC books or Shazam being part of a team I’ve never read the character so any differences are mostly lost on me. I would think most comic book to film adaptations would be closer to the New 52 simply due to both being modern iterations. Is there really much of a difference between the classic and New 52? All the core elements seem to be the same best as I can tell but as I stated, I’m no authority on the character.

My point is it seems most here who don’t think this looks good simply aren’t into Shazam. It’s definitely a more light hearted/juvenile character. Especially if we’re telling his origin story. While it’s not really a film I’m personally excited about I’m not seeing anything wrong with the adaptation based on the trailer.

Yep, this is what I expect from this film.

Not all movies should be dark as Batman. WB has been stuck on that for a bit. Give the rest their own style of movies.

I think this will be a suprise hit.
