James Gunn tweeted about rape and sex with children to thousands of followers. I personally think that is worse.

Banging a porn star right after your wife gives birth to your child ranks up there as pretty disgusting....
That said, Gunn defiantly has some perverted issues and is a sick man, I think Disney made the only call they could....

Should he have been fired: yeah, it’s not going to sit well with anyone really. It was a preemptive business decision. Makes sense. Don’t have a problem with that really. The thing that will bother me will be the “socially righteous” types that will crucify Gunn, and were praising Roman Polanski and his work, back when Gunn made the comments.

It'll come from both sides. I've already seen so called "right-wingers" calling Disney SJW and others i've seen saying he's a full on pedo and threatening bodily harm.
The Lefties I've seen are screaming injustice and saying a bunch of other crap.
It's pretty simple, if you've said something that tarnishes a public companies brand, prepare to lose your job. If only it happened to politicians the same way.

Even Kipling’s poetry from 1899 is being taken down due to racist comments. Might as well burn Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer books. It’s out of control IMO.

From what I read this symbol is actually from a comic book by Morrison, called Nameless, which Gunn wanted to adapt for a long time now.

All this to say, social media has changed how the world works. It's become anonymous vigilantism. It seems people have lost the right to due process, the right to face their accuser, and even a right to defend themselves. Historically, a person's motive played a vital role in how one would be judged. Not any more. It seems that nowadays, motives are now decided anonymously, generally from those, it seems, with a major axe to grind. For some time now, I have felt a far greater urgency to watch what I say, how I say it, even among friends on line.
Whenever the topic is about something like religion, women, diversity, immigration, anything with the slightest potential of controversy, you run a great risk of losing everything. No one will care. You could lose your job, house, financial security, everything, over one poorly placed comment. There is no second chance. No opportunity to apologize or redeem yourself. You are blackballed. We're living the modern day McCarthyism, only now, there are no cameras. It can come from anywhere.

this is why I am glad I am not on Facebook or Twitter or anything like that. You just have to wonder what people think when they post stuff. Even though it was 8 years ago I am surprised it never came up before this.
