The collected editions are just easier for me to manage. They allow me to get all of the story and usually all of the cover art including the ridiculous number of variants. The only real downside is the wait, but that only means I'm behind by less than a year, since trades and hardcovers are released in quick succession of the floppies. My only exceptions are Savage Dragon, because it's not collected with the same ferocity as most books, and Astro City. Less bagging and boarding means more time for reading...
