Advice: Red Lights of Death

My son's 360 crapped out on him and the three "red lights of death" are flashing. I'm told this means there's a hardware problem and it'll have to go in for repairs. Any guidance anyone can give? Thanks.

yep, it's dead. Call 1 800 4my xbox. They'll guide you through the return process.

They'll send you a pre paid shipping box and you'll have a new system about a week after that.

Here's some more info http://support.microsoft.com/kb/907534

Or, if you did what I did, you can just bring it back to Gamestop with your warranty and they'll switch it out for a new one.

Either way, REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR HARD DRIVE.

Google "Xbox Towel Fix". Something comes up about being able to fix the red lights of death with simple bath towel. You can try it out for the hell of it since you can't break the system anymore then it already is. The consensus from several other forums is that it has about a 65% success rate. If you try it, let us know if it works. Good luck.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

I'll chime in here briefly. I usually am not a fan of Best Buy and try not to buy a lot of things there unless I absolutely have to. I do however, buy every video game system from them. You can purchase a two year extended warranty at the time of purchase for $50. It is the only time I ever buy an extended warranty. If anything goes wrong in that two years you simply bring it back and they give you a new one. No questions asked. Twice I have had a 360 have problems freezing up. I unplugged it, detached the harddrive and took the unit to the store. They opened a brand new one each time and pulled the unit out, handed it to me, and out the door I went. I also was able to purchase another two years for $50. It does not get better than that and Gamestop is only 1 year. I know this doesn't help you now but maybe on a future purchase. I also exchanged a PS3 the same way.
