Here's an example. I absolutely love the new Mystique piece. I will be ordering it the first day she goes up. My good friend does not like her at all, and has told me multiple times how much she does not like the piece. While I respect her opinion, her hating Mystique has absolutely no bearing on whether or not I will be ordering. It hasn't detracted me at all.

Your other point about generating hype and FOMO is more akin to someone like the BSC who hypes up everything on his channel, which often generates FOMO in viewers, meanwhile providing his affiliate link for people to order.

Two very different subjects.
Yes and no. There have been plenty of well received pieces that got me to take a 2nd, 3rd, 4th look that I came around on. Canale's Sabretooth being one example. Had people dismissed it, then I never would have taken a second look.

BSC is a caricature. He hypes everything and his grandma's oatmeal raisin cookies are not all that.

And you are a bad example as you are already an 'in the know' collector. If you were brand new, stumbled onto that Mystique, Ill bet your friends criticism would carry a lot more weight in your decision making.

I still dont think this piece is as bad as its been made out to be, here and on FB, its just stylized and not the version that many wanted so they took it out on this one giving the impression its bad, and not just a different cup of tea kind of thing.

Limited two week ordering window.
OK, a variant for a piece that got a whopping 300 ES...what's this variant going to clock in at, 25 ES?

Huh, did not see that coming. Short eared portrait only looks like on that. I think it looks better in black but I always liked the blue color scheme better.

Bad is always subjective. All of this is. Praise is often stated as factual. how such a GOOD sculpt. Nobody complains about that.
Qualifying everything gets old. Not sure I need to be "fair" in my appraisal of a for profit product just because an artist put in effort.

I'd wager things get far more overvalued by hype than undervalued.

The muscle striations, the skinny cape swoop, the pose, the position on the spire; it's all awkward.

You don't feel the need to put IMO after every opinion? Well that's just lazy

No doubt. I am just saying that people were generally critical of this particular piece not becasue of the statue, but because it wasnt to their tastes.

For whatever reason, some of that awkwardness is muted in the Black version to my eye.

I think the particulars of this statue are the problem for most. A little softer muscles, pose that made more sense would have improved it. The cape fading to bats is a cool concept in the comics and could make for an awesome statue but needs more work here.

If you're not going to give people what they are wanting in their own minds then you better hit a home run or else... poor sales.

I still see awkward. It is almost as if the base is pseudo-forced perspective too.
