I loved it as it was actually better than the original story. You won't find many shiny happy stories among King's works.

Not for me. I liked the ending of the original story much more. Can't figure out why they ever changed it. The movie was the book right up 'til the crappy, depressing ending.

Somebody know if there is an alternate end version(like the book) of the film?

SPOILER
-----------------------------------------------

In the book, the father, son, and woman made it out of the town, back to his house where he saw that his wife didn't make it, then on to a road heading towards Boston. While on the road, an enormous (skyscraper tall) creature lumbers past their SUV kinda showing that the whole world had jumped dimensions. The book ends with all three just traveling into who knows what lies ahead of them. At least, there was some hope.

The movie changed it all to an "if they had only waited, they would have made it." Why the Director changed it, I'll never understand. Everyone dies but the Dad who will live forever with the guilt/insanity?
Weeeee.
