STORY SPOILERS...

It's been ages since I read King's story, but I recall having a very palpable feeling of isolation when I finished it. Don't the survivors scan the radio for signs of life and think they hear someone for a split second? It might have been a hopeful ending, but I felt more creeped out than anything. It helped that I read it at 3am in the office of an empty campus hall.

Yeah, you're definitely left with a feeling of "possibility" with original story's ending. Who knows what dad, son and hot school teacher may encounter over the course of their travels. I enjoyed it and thought it still provided a somewhat dark, creepy ending. The ending of the film, especially after what the Dad saw at the end, just left me frustrated and sickened. As far as cliche goes, the book is decades old now; the ending wasn't cliche back in the 70's and what the heck's wrong with a little hope?

i'll tell you what i did find very scary, in the extras on the disc they had Darabont holding a conversation with King and boy did Darabont pucker up and give Kings arse one hell of a kissing, Dude you have made money and a career out of filming King shorts, now do something else and get from up Kings arse.....
almost spoilt the film for me

Do we have a thread about the new TV series on Spike?

Anyone watch it yet? Is it any good?

Saw the first episode but don't think I'm going to tune in for the next one. Acting was subpar and the mist f/x is rather cheesey.

Wanted to like it, but came away disappointed (that's what she said!).

I caught the first 3 episodes free on demand,

I like it enough to want to see the fourth, but yeah the mist is a little too CGI looking at times, other times it is an obvious smoke machine right on the other side of a door, rarely does it look intimidating.

Having seen the original film I know what might be expected to be in the mist, so far we sure haven't seen anything yet in that department. The acting is a mixed bag, but this is Spike TV network here, so I'm willing to be somewhat forgiving about that.

You think it was not bad, sporadically except for the beginning?

This movie didn't speak to me like it did most folks - at least the folks that loved it. I hated it, but was treated to a despicably depressing ending chock full of unbelievable timing. It was actually a good laugh after I got over being pissed off that I wasted the time watching the rest of the movie.

I like the ending of the movie much better than the ending of the short story for sure.
