Gandalf's Staff 1st and 2nd edition questions

Well, i hear the 1st edition is rarer but also that like 80% of them were damaged somehow and now i have the opportuity to pick up either the 2nd edition or the possibly damaged 1st.

What was the damage to the 1st edition?

A pic of this flaw would really help, as would any feedback.

Get the 2nd edition one. I have one of those. It corrected the problem with the first edition. I believe the problem had to do with cracking of the paint. They made the 2nd edition with different materials and the problem was solved. It's only one piece and I don't think it's made of wood. The 1st edition came in 2 pieces, a metal crown and a solid wood shaft, painted in white. The wood shaft paint was cracking, and significanty, at the joint site if I recall correctly. This is definitely a case where rarer means nothing as far as I am concerned. Why would you even think about buying a damaged item when you can get a perfect one? Those 1st edition ones are worthless. If someone is trying to convince you otherwise I would think twice about it.

If you like Gandalf's staff you should check out Saruman's staff. That one is awesome.
