The putty arrived today.
The rear boot has a lot of tread which is ideal for filling with putty. It was possible to push the rear boot towards the base, and so far so good, no gap, no sign of putty. I'll have to see how long it lasts.
Also, i added putty around the edge of the front square peg as that was loose. I think this was adding to the slight lean. There is zero wobble now.
If the rear boot forces the putty to detach over time, then i will resort to my original plan and use Araldite which will hold anything in place
