i`ll be buying some blu-ray now i`ve got a PS3
I have a question though.. If a film is released on both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray which (in general) would be the best format, for overall pic/sound quality, to buy?

For me, it's an easy choice. I always take the HD-DVD version over the Blu-ray. The quality is very close although the early Blu-ray releases are clearly inferior. HD-DVD is way ahead as far as their In Movie functionality. There's also the matter of price. Most HD-DVD versions are cheaper than the corresponding Blu-ray version.

Just checking Z. Picking up the PS3 tonight. Reason i asked was if there was a surround sound system hooked up. Generally a dedicated player would be superiour for sound.

I haven't watched the BR yet El but the HD-DVDs are excellent. I am really mainly concerned with picture and sound and not too fussed on extras and menus etc.

Reviewers tend to favor HD DVD by a small margin. Now that Blu Ray uses MPEG4 the gap is closing.
I use my PS3 for these movies:
Terminator 2
Prestige
Casino Royal
5th Element
Momento
Ice Age 2
X-men 3
Fantastic 4
Taladega Nights
Crank
Eragon on the way

Just got my PS3, HDMI cable, wireless control and remote control. Role on Casino Royal. Where is Terminator 2 available?
