Another paint equipment question

What type of compressor do you guys use? hp? psi? All that kind of good stuff. I don't want to get something too powerful but, I also don't want to get something to cheap. Thanks

I've got a Thayer and Chandler Airstar V, it's awesome. Runs very silent and a great steady airpressure. It's 1/8th HP and can go up to 40psi, but I typically run at about 12 psi.

I run a Silentaire T-30 Super Silent. Not sure what the HP is, but it's powerful enough to run two airbrushes simultaneously. I typically spray at 15psi,

So I take it these aren't compressors that you can go pick up at the local Lowes or Home Depot?

The best way we found to get a compressor is when AC Moore has their 50% off coupons...they do not exclude the compressors for some reason, so Can got a $240 compressor for $120, that deal was sweet for sure...

Oh and she uses the Badger model 180-11, VERY quiet and powerful enough for 2 airbrushes...

Rick and Danno do you guys attach a PSI gauge at the port of your compressor? and is that a good thing to do? thanks

I got the same compressor based on Ricks recommendation and it works great!

Mad4 - Definitely. Helps to set your pressure ahead of time and keep it constant.

Ashley - Right around $500 w/ shipping. There are less expensive versions of compressors w/ the same quality. You can indeed run your airbrush through a Home Depot or Lowes model ( I initially ran off a Sears model!) but they are very noisy and take up a lot of space for the most part. Since I spray inside, I needed something quiet and was willing to shell out the extra cash to get it. Check this link: Dixie Art

It will give you a good idea of what's out there....

I have a oxygen machine for mine! goes from 1- 100 psi. It constantly runs but it's really quiet and it was $10 at a yard sale. Not your typical air compressor I know but I figured i would share.
