North Face Messenger Bag

Several members asked about the bag I was carrying at NYCC -- It's called the North Face Base Camp Messenger Bag http://www.ebags.com/product/the-nor...g-large/100227

Royd posted about it earlier in the year and I followed his advice. Its a great bag and can easily hold multiple 14x17 portfolios

Note I shopped around and was able to find the bag a little less than at eBags.

I think a purse has to hang off of your shoulder more and be less like a backpack

Hmmm, the link didn't seem to work for me so here's another link (hopefully this will work) so that Lee can see what it looks like -
http://www.thenorthface.com.au/secur...?ProductID=538 or http://tinyurl.com/27lnm5p

This bag is used by hikers, campers and bike couriers (and now comic art collectors ) so it's not exactly a purse

I used it during my trip to SDCC, NYC and LA earlier this year and when I made an overnight trip to Boston to visit Jim Reid and view his comic art collection, I used it as an overnight backpack - worked perfectly!

Good to know it worked for you Bill

Hi,

interesting bag.

Is it water proof? In case you want to transport you artwork through the rain.
Are you alowed to take it inside an airplane (carry-on luggage)?

Thanks.

Yep, online reviews from happy customers describe it as water-proof and the sales blurb states -

"Made from the same material that's used at high-altitudes in the Himalayas, the Base Camp Messenger Bag is practically indestructible and ideal for rugged day-to-day use. Highly-durable, this bag's designed to tote a laptop up to 17 inches large, and still have ample room to stash anything else riders need to bring on a day's journey."

It even came with a guarantee against wear and tear damage because of the incredibly strong material and construction used.

Here's a Youtube review of the the bag -

Lastly, I transported 3 folios of artwork (a folio for Nicola Scott, Ardian Syaf and Ben Stenbeck's original pages) in mine from Perth to Sydney to SDCC, New York and LA on a variety of airlines without any difficulties. It fits within the size/volume guidelines for cabin baggage.

@Royd,

I am thinking about buying one for myself-

Do you think that a 11"x 18" mylar sleeve with a backing board would fit into this bag?
Thanks.

I believe it would and I can test it but the bag is not rigid so any artwork in a sleeve with just a backing board would require additional support.

It's great for transporting 11" x 17" folios but anything with less support would be suspect. best,

Royd
