For the uninitiated, can you provide a an explanation as to the size differences on screen?
For instance, how would this display differently on an IMAX or Cinemark XD screen?

I will be making the trip to see Hateful 8 the way it is meant to be seen. Hopefully there is a theater not too far out of the way.

If you look on youtube you'll find some videos of projectionists preparing for screenings of Interstellar or The Master, which are two recent 70mm releases.
Those are some big reels!

Wow! You aren't kidding. Found one that is a good example of just how large the film reels are, along with the prep work involved.
Definitely can see why studios are abandoning this method. Not sure the cost/investment is worth it.

Personally I don't think it stands a chance. Even IMAX are moving to digital. The proposed Avengers Imfinity War will be shot on those new Digital cameras. It will be interesting to see how they differ from current technolog.

There are obviously a lot of pros to switching to digital in terms of production, preview of dailies, and output.
There's also a part of me that is torn about it, in a similar way to how some comic artists use the Wacom tablet to draw.
There's no original art to trace back to in terms of a physical copy.
