Any DirecTV subscriber with HD DVR?

Hello,

Does anyone know if I subscribe to DirecTV with the HD DVR....then do I need to hook it up to my phone line to use the schedule recording? I don't plan on purchasing PPV, but I would like to record shows without the phone line.

Can someone confirm for me? Please.

I have one and the phone line was disconnected for a while with no problems for regular programming.

I have Dish with an HD DVR and we are not connected with a phone line. We can record anything, even ppv.

DirectTV here with HD DVR the phone line is only for PPV purchases which you can make over the Net on the website I have had DTV for 5 years and have never had my recievers connected to a phone line

Thanks, but the question was for my brother who is trying to take advantage of the $180 cash back from Costco member. I wonder if he can get the $180, plus another $100 from you I doubt it...let me know if it is possible.

You don't need it to record on your HD DVR but if the phone line is connected a caller ID window will pop up on screen when the phone rings.

A phone line is not required! I have all DIrect TV DVRs and no phone lines at all. They all update software via the satellite feed and can be programmed through your account, that you can set up for free on DirectTV.com.

Hence no landline and only cell phones for me!
