You can end combos in the corner with a hard knock down, put bed of thorns down, and then use a meaty set up which will tack on an additional 10 to 15 percent to your combo. If you anticipate a reversal or jump you can punish with another combo with the added bed of thorns in place. The damage is quite significant.
It's also good for closing rounds. If your opponent is low on health they will be hesitant to rush in on Ivy if bed of thorns is down. This will of course make her vine drill keep away game more potent allowing for easier chip damage or to capitalize on free damage since your opponent won't be able to rush in.
