Thoughts on Scalped
I bought the Deluxe version of Scalped because I have heard great things about it. Never bought or read an issue before.
Really didn't like the art(R.M Guera?), remember coming across the artist before when I bought an issue of Django Unchained that I got because it had a Frank Quitely cover and thought it was awful, but digging the story and loving JOck's covers.
Can you like a comic just based on the story and not really liking the artwork? And what are your thoughts on Scalped, does it get better, both storywise and art?
I have yet to order the second Deluxe edition but it's in my basket at amazon.com

I thought it was great, I have not finished the whole series yet but in 40 iss. I had really enjoyed it,
The art work reminded me of the old Sgt Rock comics of old

I liked Scalped.. There are a few standalone stories that are just beautiful. I think everyone should read at least Scalped #35, a story called " Listening to the earth Turn ". No pre-reading required.
Then you can take a call on on buying
I get where you're coming from, the art is a bit too dirty ( it kinda suits the setting though ), but the story is solid.

I dunno about dirty, It just doesn't seem traditional art to me. By that, I mean it looks drawn on a tablet or lightbox, whatever the piece of equipment is called & no disrespect meant. There is no depth to it, very flat.
I'm just a traditionalist who prefers penciled art :/

I tried the first Scalped trade and didn't like the story or the art. Just didn't click with me.
That said... yes, there are plenty of instances where I love a story but can't stand the art. A great story will go a long way towards making up for bad art, but great art can't do the same for a bad story.
