Dao2, I'm just assuming Poxxil and Odium have such leaning designs and big top portions that they felt it was the best option, you may be right about them drooping over time, but hopefully sideshow has studied this stuff, and hopefully what DGK said was right about the bottom portion

Pretty sure they did it for their bottom line and no other reason :P If it's vinyl I don't know about vinyl though. I had thought someone said PVC. But yeah I don't think they are doing any of this because it's a better material for the statue, they are doing it because it's cheaper.

There was discussion about the cost of using vinyl in the Swamp Thing thread and someone mentioned it actually cost more to use vinyl.
I have a fibreglass 1/4 custom statue and it is 8 years old and it has held up over time. No leaning, especially when one character is holding another character, doing a fastball special. So if part of the body is fibreglass, should be no worries.

If it was due to the bottom line, then every statue they put out would be getting made top to bottom in those materials.
I am firmly in the camp that it was made from the materials it was due to the engineering involved.

It is, and they have tried making the entire statue in PVC before (cheaply, not properly) and it came with serious flaws and tons of people had issues with the piece (it was a superman one, had terrible seam lines due to the PVC). Pretty much every company makes things as cheaply as they can and still make it passable to customers (smaller newer ones probably not really). Most are not trying to make "premium" prodcuts, especially not SS. They could absolutely make the thing in better quality resin, hell they could even do a metal armature in there and probably still make money. But not as much money, and that's the point. Anything they do is what they figure is the cheapest way to do something and make it look like a way they feel is acceptable so their customers will be happy with it, a few companies try to go "above and beyond" in this industry and SS hasn't been one of them for many many years (generally they'll be smaller and especially newer companies trying to get their name out).

I should have him tomorrow by EOD. Will let you know what I think of the materials when I have him in hand and hopefully get some photos up shortly after.

Odium just arrived at the office, #159/300. Wasn't expecting an art box and the art is pretty cool, one more enormous box for the garage! No breaks or damage, yay!! I will get a weight on him when I get home as I haven't lifted him out of the box yet, just searched for damage. I can't speak to how heavy he feels in the hand yet so I'm excited for that.
