Okay I usually hate threads like this, but what the hell.

Firstly, ALL companies have QC problems that produce products over seas. That s just a fact. If you pay someone $3 for a "high end" paint job you will get what you pay for. However, it is how you handle those QC issues that matters.

Everyone seems to forget/forgive the fact that out of the 5 statues XM has released over the last year 2 have been recalled or delayed do to MASSIVE QC problems. Almost 1/2 of the Black Widow longhairs portraits were deformed do to a casting issue, and the Iron Man Mark 42 had a major design flaw where the arms were snapping off during transport even though they went put of the way to test the packaging with a giant drop test. Now let's look at that... 2 out of 5 or 40% of their statues over the last year have had inexcusable QC issues. Hell I can bet that SSC hasn't had anywhere close to that kind of track record. So why the forgiveness?? Hell, the almost Puck Bunny devotion to XM.

It is their attitude, and their dedication to their customers and craft... Pure and simple.

They recalled their Iron Man statues, and are fixing the broken arms with a metal pin now, something SSC should be doing with their RUlks IMHO. They caught the BW problem after the communities lost their crap, and are fixing them. SSC could learn from just that, and then go further. Things like having enough replacements for busted or subpar pieces well past the end of the initial shipping has started, or at least have the ability to make more, would go a long way.

Now do I hate SSC. Hell no I love their work, and I think they are awesome, but I do think their is room for improvement when it comes to their QC issues. It is the difference between them and XM right now, and how XM, who are only batting 60% for a year, are winning the hearts and wallets of many a fan.

I agree with the lack of replacements needing addressing. I ran into that twice this year unfortunately. I got my Alien Warrior LSB early on when it first started shipping but already there were no replacements. A bit disheartening after the long wait, it would be nice to know there will be plenty to hand, or at least the option to wait while another is made which I wouldn't mind waiting for at all, we all have to give and take equally knowing that these things can happen on occasion.

The rest is just common sense really, I'm looking at my Sideshow Prometheus Engineer as I type this and he's awesome, it looks like the prototype... Just do that.

Oh and most importantly. Find the best factory in all the lands and get that P2 maquette made.

I think we've been hearing the same type of concerns from numerous fans about the QC problem for a number of years now. While the seriousness of the QC issues may vary from piece to piece, they nonetheless appear often enough to have created an atmosphere of concern, anxiety, and mistrust, at least from what we can see voiced and posted in various fan forums. Alas, as a whole, the QC problems generally appear either unaddressed, ignored, or simply out of Sideshow's control to consistently do something about. Whatever the case, speaking for myself, I've developed a sense of Sideshow fatigue. While I wish it were not the case, I have felt compelled to cut my Sideshow orders in half over the past year. That cash has now been directed towards other companies who seem more prepared or adamant about addressing QC.

While I commend the artists, painters, and design staff at Sideshow for doing a stellar job in presenting what looks to be an awesome product to the fanbase, what eventually ends up in our hands a year+ later often appears too far removed from what was originally presented to us during the pre-order stage. Again, while this may not always be the case, it happens often enough where an atmosphere of uncertainty continues to plague factions of the fanbase.

In closing, I truly believe this hobby is far better off with Sideshow at the top of its game. It's to the point now where some of us are actually willing to pay close to the price of a statue in shipping costs alone just to receive something we believe will resemble what we originally hoped to buy. That's a huge statement, I think.

This sums it up pretty well.
Also, I'd add: I've read things like "other companies are just beginning, you'll see that past the honeymoon they'll have the same issues too", said by Sideshow reps.
It might be true, but seriously, now, as a customer, what should I think of a statement like that?
Isn't Sideshow aware of the issues? Do they care? Do they think they're somewhat excused just because they're bigger? I really can't figure.
All I know is that given Sideshow's experience in this industry, they should be the standard to follow. So far, all other companies set their standards by being NOT like Sideshow.
I mean, Hot Toys has moved a s**t ton of 1:6 Iron Man Mark 43 at 345$, Sideshow can't even move 1000 Daredevil PF for 40 bucks more. Somewhere, someone at Sideshow must be questioning if their business model has flaws.

1) Give factory workers bonus incentives
2) get some dedicated SS people to QC
3) get some specialists to go out and show them how to do things better
4) be more consistent with messages to customers with regards to what is available for customers in terms of replacements
5) do spot checks on the factories
6) be more transparent - actually get involved in discussions (like in the WW thread right now) and explain where things stand

Overall - stop wasting money on cure and spend a bit more on prevention. Cure is money down the drain. Prevention in the form of a bonus for a worker in china could mean a lot.

People were asking why SS pulled the plug on Predator 2. Can someone post the picture of the XM product being painted and the Predator 2 in the background. It might shed some light on the thought process.

Great suggestions Bobfrog. The question though is Sideshow listening? Let's all hope they finally are.
