For larger scales 1/4 and above, I can accept fabric elements like capes and coats. It can be very cumbersome and risky to move some fully FULLY sculpted statues. However, my love is fully sculpted because you get the details that fabric otherwise hides. Even more impressive when a fully sculpted part gets mistaken for fabric. That's the art of this hobby. So my vote ultimately to fully sculpted.

On large pieces its actually more important, most 1/2 or 1/1 it's critical to have mixed media.

Seems like the market has spoken, as full-sculpt has taken prominence. I would've thought people would miss the fabric touch in the age of digital sculpting, but I guess not.

If fully sculpted is the future, that works for me. But there's no denying SS did some great work with fabric.
The sculpted Fabric stuff looks effin great. Prime 1's Lee Bermejo Joker is flawless in that regard.

I know that some of their early pieces are highly regarded and valuable, but they also get comments about looking dated and I think having fabric is the biggest reason imo. Doom on Throne, OG Captain America, Thor, Spider-man, Wolverine and Sabretooth PF's are all great sculpts but being fully sculpted would take nothing away from their greatness and probably benefit them.

That's not even mentioning the biggest problem for some which is what happens when the fabric(pleather mostly) deteriorates and we're left with an unsightly/unfinished statue down the road. I hope if they continue using pleather they'll make sure the sculpt is finished and looks good underneath the material. Is this the case for the new Rogue?
I think Sideshow will always do Fabric , but yr right about Longevity, there really is none to be honest. They too are mainly doing only Capes now and for me I think that is the only fabric I want, because it is replaceable fairly easily AND more importantly it is felxible so it doesn't take up a lot of room. I changed my OG SS superman PF to cloth cape only and I love it, coz I can have him anywhere I want.

As far as competition back in the day , there was none, even customs showed a serious lack of sculpting detail , it wasnt until Prime 1 and XM came along tht we saw true competition , XM took a few to match up but Prime 1 were nailing it from the get go.

I stil like SS 1/4 pieces because the focus is on the charachter and not the base. With 1/4 scale and the limited real estate I have I can't lose space to protruding piece of sculpted rock
