Get Fables NOW! I like the first tpb of Machina but I'm going to wait for the whole series to finish up before I read the rest as it seems to me a better read straight through.

Both these books are going to be talked about years after they are gone much like Preacher and Sandman.

That's a fair comparison. I loved both Preacher and Sandman, and I feel like Y, Ex and Fables are at about the same level of quality.

Fables is the only monthly non-Marvel comic book I buy. Well, apart from JLA, but I buy that for someone else and just read it first.
Fables started off brilliantly, dipped a little in the second arc, and then started getting better and better. Mark Buckingham's artwork is an absolute joy.

Speaking of art from Fables, JDH. One of my grails in artwork would be almost any of the covers from Fables, done by James Jean, great, great covers!

I just read Bat Collector's reviews. "Y" has been on my radar since wktf put it there, but I think Fables looks like it might be next on the list for a pick-up.
I think my wife might even like the premise on this one.
