lack of marketing dollars and big oil will keep electric car adoption rates miniscule. Not to mention they're mechanically far less complex so the auto industry doesnt want them either.

The public doesn't want to buy inferior vehicles foisted on them by greenies and government bureaucrats. The only reason electric cars are on the market is because we're forced to subsidize them with our tax dollars.

The day electric cars hit 0-60 in under 5 seconds, will be the day I consider buying one.

Top Gear previewed one that could. Built by an American company. It was faster than a Lotus. Very impressive. The current problem is power up outlets, the lenght of time it takes to charge and the battery life. If they can get that sorted they will have a future. When oil hits $200 a barrel in the future people will only be too happy to consider alternatives.

Speed isn't the problem.

It's functionality and logistics that are the problem.

Batteries for all electric cars have a long way to go. An Israeli University is working on a revolution, if it's possible: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...teries&spell=1.

Plug-in (Volt) and diesel hybrid's (if a car company would make one already) are way more viable.

as if it was any better letting people write off their Yukons and Escalades? How about cash for clunkers? Top 10 cars dumped in that fiasco were all American gas guzzling crap.

I'd happily purchase an electric car if they were cheap enough. Would be perfect for a 40minute round trip commute.

But like i said, dont worry about it. They wont be afordable or available.
