I Love My Plan Cabinet! :)

Meet the newest addition to the "family" - a 10 drawer Plan Cabinet by Staverton (UK) a furniture maker who supplied furniture to the Crown Courts and other crown buildings.

It is dated 1957 (it's older than me!) with the ER crest and is a magnificent (huge) utilitarian piece which will store my original comic art collection! Up till now, I've been using a small plan cabinet (which used to store hospital x-rays) but was running out of room so this piece will suffice into the future.

I've been chasing a piece like this (I don't like metal cabinets, much prefer wood) for some years and was very pleased to find this one. It was pretty beat up but Lisa and I (under Lisa's supervision) have spent quite a few hours removing the cork tiles stuck on top, sanding it, staining it and lovingly restoring it! Thanks Lisa

That's a beauty Royd. I need something like that for my art and prints.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

In the states we call those "flat files", and yours, is absolutely stunning. Well worth the years it took to find it! Congrats!

Very nice!

I was desperately in need of something to house my twice up art- I settled on a custom art case that doesn't look 1/10th as nice as what you've got there.

I've wanted a nice flat file for years, but I don't think I've ever been jealous of one until now.

Thanks everyone - great to see fellow collectors like the "new addition" As an aside, I was advised that I should line the drawers with acid free paper to stop any possible leaching issues from the wood.

Not that I think it's likely but it wouldn't hurt to line the drawers as suggested.
