1/4-1/3 scale Metal grate (flooring)? Where can I find this?

I'm sculpting some 1/4- 1/3rd scale Alien eggs to go beside my 1/4 Alien Queen bust and I'd like to have the base be the metal grate flooring like in the movie.
I've been looking high and low and can't find anything. I know, I could make it with some aluminum bars from Lowes but that's going to cost up around $50+ for all the pieces. Tried all the local hobby stores with no luck either. The problem is that I'd like it to be metal or wood because I'd like to sculpt the tentacles and Alien goo on the base then bake it.
Any ideas?

Although it's plastic, one idea would be fluorescent light covers. I bought some for a project that were about a half inch thick and with square half inch holes. Sorry for the horrible explanation. You could then just sculpt the tentacles and goo with Aves. Just a thought for you.

I have a feeling I'll wind up using plastic.
