Did I just find a new advantage of boiling?

Here is the base of my sculpture right after boiling:

As you can see it's very white! not only because of the light, but when boiling sculpey there's a film of white on top of the whole sculpture.

And here is after I've used it for a silicone mold:

The white color is removerd and never came back!, so I'm wondering if the white layer actually served the purpose of release agent for the silicone? that would be awesome! (unless the sculpey never sticks to the silicone when baked heh... don't know about that)

i dont believe you need a release agent for a single block mold for any clay or plastic. as long as the material your model is made of is compatible with the silicone being used for the mold. the only time you need a release anent from what i understand is when your making a two piece block mold with two separate sides of silicone. silicone sticks to silicone. without the release agent you would have to cut them apart rather than pulling them apart.
what more than likely happen was that the white film was absorbed into the silicone or when it got wet with the silicone. or the dry model/base absorbed it back into itself. or the white film has stuck to the silicone when you took the model out of the mold.
that would be my guess anyway.

cool looking base by the way.
