Yeah... John Logan/Showtime can go to hell for the way they ended the original series. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended this after one or two seasons.

The only thing that throws me off a bit is that the original series takes it's name from Penny Dreadfuls, which were small story books you bought for a penny during the 1800s in England.

This new series being set in 1938 in Los Angles kinda destroys that dynamic.

I'm hoping they continue using literary characters based in horror though to keep at least that part of the series going. They could even bring back some characters (John Clare, Dorian Gray and Lily come to mind) since they are immortal. But new characters from the time period could also be interesting, literature such as Phantom of the Opera(1911), Call of Cthulhu (1927) and Werewolf of Paris (1933) could be used as a basis.
