I can't stand Sanchez and despise the Jets but comparing him in his second year and slumping to Vinnie in his prime is kind of unfair. Instead take Vinnie in his second year in the NFL or second year as a starter.
G Att Comp Pct Att/G Yds Avg Yds/G TD Rating
VT 1989 14 480 258 53.8 34.3 3,133 6.5 223.8 20 68.9
VT 1988 15 466 222 47.6 31.1 3,240 7.0 216.0 13 48.8
MS 2010 14 470 254 54.0 33.6 3,022 6.4 215.9 16 74.6
So 1989 is Vinnie's second year as a starter but third year in the league and 88 is his second year in the league. Except for the TD's Sanchez has a statistical edge. I'd give Sanchez the edge anyway. One thing that pisses me off about him is that he always seems to get out of trouble and avoid sacks. Of course I wish him good health, no TD's and double digit interceptions the rest of the way, but taking my bias out of it, if I were a Jet fan (Thank God for sparing me that misery) I would rather have Sanchez.
