This is so sad. It’s just sad. While I loved Kirby’s misanthropic Thing and Ditko’s bullied and insecure Spidey, it was Stan that gave them their voice, personality and presented their psyches. He spoke to me as a bullied, insecure kid back in the ‘60s and ‘70s and made me feel part of something with his Bullpen Bulletins and Stan’s Soapbox. When I felt alone, I also felt like part of a collective cool group of Marvel Marchers. His dialogue on Thor is what drove me to the dictionary and to books to figure out what I was reading. I credit Stan to my love of literature. When I was studying Shakespeare in college I also had my Frank Miller Daredevil’s on my desk. Other college kids laughed at me for reading comic books until I told them to read DD, after which they’d beg me for the next issue. Stan is just part of who I am. I feel like part of me now is gone.

Words fail. What a sad, sad day.

He lived an extraordinary life and left behind a legacy that few others can match. Thanks for the memories Stan.

Excelsior!

It's amazing he held on this long after his wife passed. His love of life and his fans must've have kept him going. RIP
