I think they were just supposed to be random fights just like in Mario Strikers with the random matches, kind of like real life, or you can play off your friends list.
I dont want to save random people I fight with anyway, bunch of cheaters if you ask me.

I had a blast playing the original Smash Bros (five years ago). I couldn't beat my nephew when he was 6, what chance do I have now  .
