It's all SSDD. I'd rather see people employed (and with benefits) and putting back into the system.
It's not the USPS fault that it's hemorraging money -- it's officials that don't want to change the system.
Also true; I agree.

With the massive amount of junk mail delivered to my house every day, I find it interesting that the USPS can be losing that much money. How about they up the postage rate for the advertisers and leave the rest of us alone?

And citizens who don't want to pay higher shipping rates

Amazingly enough this will probably result in a 10% decrease in operating expenses yet a 25% increase in costs.

I don't think that's completely true. You are supposed to have smart, intelligent, foresightful people in charge of these large organizations. I knew years ago, when I first started paying all my bills electronically and sending more e-mails/greetings via the internet there were going to be less first class mail. These guys should have seen that coming years ago and planned for it.

The simple solution is to charge a per email fee that is in line with the cost of mailing a letter.

The article is misleading. Even when the USPS was profitable, it recieved a small amount of federal funding. Last year it was $16 Billion in the hole...there is no way they could keep a business that is designed to break even or make a "small" profit open with losses of that magnitude w/o getting a handout.

I wasn't aware of any handouts Do you have any articles on this ? I'd like to read it. For the longest time the po has created it's own revenue and not funded by the govt. At least that's what I thought. ?
