Sure! It's really alot of fun. It's important, but not at the same level as Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) or Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). Purim is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Persian Jews from the plot of the evil ruler Haman who, like Hitler, actually tried to exterminate them. This story is found in the Book of Esther in the Holy Sciptures. According to that book, the feast was instituted as a national celebration by Mordechai, who became the new ruler, and Esther after the victory over Haman.
It's a big celebration. Costumes. Drinking. Silliness. Etc. Etc.
The Veggie Tales people did a cute take off on this, my kids have the video tape of it.
