What Primer does everyone use?

I've used different brands from Michael's Arts to Home Depot stuff. Is there a particular brand that is best used for resin that's commercially avaiilable?

I heard Gunze's Mr.Primer/surfacer is the best but it's hard to get in the states so I personally use Tamiya primers.

I refuse to use car/house primer on fine scale models, it's like using friggin' machete to cut a steak.

There's a REALLY cheap primer you can pick up at Wal-Mart for about $1.20 that works just as well as any expensive auto primer I've ever used ... it's in a blue and white can and the brand is called "Color Palace."

Duplicolor Filler Primer - for filling in large scratches and finding areas i miss on a custom.

Duplicolor Primer - Before painting and covering the filler primer.

Can be found at local auto parts stores.

When doing my alclad chrome, before painting in gloss coats i use Duplicolor Primer Sealer so the paint doesnt soak into the primer and cause weird rough grains.

This would explain the pins holes that I saw when I airbrushed Tamaya paint over a perfectly smooth and primed surface. I did not use the primer sealer and the solvent based paint seem to have reacted with the Duplicolor Primer.

be careful with those no name cheap primers. I used some in the past and they cracked, didnt let paints stick to them and some even reacted to some of the soft resin kits.

Rather pay for a good primer then run into problems down the line.

My personal favorite is mr surfacer, almost always in stock at hobbywave.com
You can get jarred or canned, little more expensive but worth it for super smooth surface.
