I think if you watch her in Edge of Tomorrow it becomes a lot easier to picture her pulling off the Captain Marvel role.

Yup. Blunt is lovely, talented and has tremendous range. She would be an asset to any role.
Honestly my biggest issue is that I question how compelling a character Ms. Marvel is. Objectively Danvers was pretty much on the shelf for 10-20 years once the Brotherhood/Rogue was done with her. Much of her popularity seems to stem from the same place "Power Girl's" does

As someone who has almost no exposure to this character aside from the ties to Rogue's storyline, I'm really curious as to how she will be presented.With any luck we will get a well rounded(no pun intended)female superhero who isn't just molded to be a companion to one of the male characters. I really want this film to gross enough to get other female characters their own solo films.

Definitely. It was similar reasoning that had me cheering on Ant-Man as a herald to the development of lesser known, but rich, properties.
