Divinity (trade pbk) Valiant Comics
Based on the reviews I'd read, I was expecting something great. Honestly, it was alright, but not great. I was hoping for a Six From Sirius type sci-fi comic, but what I read was a semi-cool premise with a bunch of Valiant heroes thrown in for continuity purposes. Matt Kindt's writing is good as was the art, but the book seemed muddy to me & asked more questions than it answered.

The Immortal Iron Fist Complete Collection vol 1
This thick softcover collects issues 1 - 16 of the Ed Brubaker/Matt Fraction series, plus associated one-shots. I love Brubaker's work, and I'd heard so many good things about this run, but I didn't like it. Delving into the history of the Iron Fists was interesting, but it's odd that Danny Rand knew next to nothing about it. Why the writers felt the need to create a Golden Age Iron Fist in the form of Orson Randall is beyond me. He has a very similar origin to Danny, and as he is essentially schooling Danny in his lineage and abilities, it almost read like "Iron Fist Year One"; however, this is obviously a seasoned version of the hero who should be more aware of these things. Overall, this was a confusing story that didn't do anything for me.

Reason: Okay, it's not a recommendation, but I had to vent to someone, and my wife doesn't care..

Yeah, Brubaker's Iron Fist was great. I wish I had bought the omnibus when it was in print.
I'm late to the game with this recommendation (and this is my first post outside of the statue section of this forum), but I have absolutely fallen in love with morning glories. I just read the first deluxe HC this weekend and I am currently halfway through volume 2. It may not be for everyone, but so far it's like LOST with high school kids. Spencer's writing is sharp, witty, and dark, and Eisma's art is just excellent. Both are solid so far after 18 issues.

Locke & Key - The complete series
- Finally read the final story arc (trade paperback book 6). All I can say is "wow". This series had me the whole way through. This could very well be the series of the decade. Totally recommended.

I'm loving this series. Straight out of the show. Only thing I missed was the "cliff hanger" between episodes. So far, each issue is self contained but it would have been great if the issues were like the show where the odd issues were 1st half with a cliff hanger and the even issues were the 2nd half. I'll definitely be continuing with these as long as they maintain the same theme.

The Fade Out vol. 1
The dynamic duo of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips do it again with an excellent noir series set in late '40s Hollywoodland. A screenwriter wakes up next to a murdered actress. He runs off, unseen, to get his wits together, but when news of her death gets out, the circumstances are not what he saw. This is a great set-up for what promises to be a compelling story. The characters are fascinating (including Clark Gable!), and there's a seedy "Hollywood Babylon" vibe to everything.
I've seen more and more crime comics on the shelves lately, and with Brubaker going full-steam, plus David Lapham back on Stray Bullets, I'm not sure how it could get better.
