The whole book was one WTF and OMG moment after another.

I'm two thirds of the way through the second, A Clash of Kings. I'm really enjoying it so far although I'm taking it slowly for me so I can get everything I can from it.

Can't wait for the next season of the TV series too.

Good call on taking it slow, I missed a few details the first time through, there really is a lot going on.

Finally finished this book, by far the longest read time of the series for me. Part of it was time constraints, but it was also a book that I really needed to take breaks from. I'll stay spoiler free in terms of specifics, but I will talk about the overall tone of the book.

I found it very depressing, and disheartening. I have high hopes for the series end, there has been plenty of foundation set down. The brutal march to the conclusion had me worn down at times during this book. I don't think this book or the previous one had the "payoffs" that the first three did to counterbalance the negativity.

I still liked the book, it was great writing. I still think the series will have a great and epic conclusion. The third book just set the bar so high.

Currently "In the Garden of Beasts" by Eric Larson.

Well told historical novel about an American Ambassador to Germany and his families struggles during the first year of Adolf Hitlers reign.

Thrones is well told, but I really struggled to get through it. It just wasn't a book that made want to keep picking it up.

It is possible that I just wasn't in the mood for that style of writing or that particular setting. I may return to it someday.

The Hunger Games really was quite good. I'll read book 2 shortly.
