1) Bring LOTS of cash (or know where branches of

your bank are).

2) Make your list before the con.

3) Update your list nightly.

4) Record all transactions. That way you know what

you pre-paid and what you owe.

5) Laugh at Mike G.'s perplexed face at the con. Because he WILL be overwhelmed and oversimulated !!!

6) Relax and have a good time. If you're not having a good time at a comic book convention, your priorities aren't right.

There are others better and more skilled than I.

What you're seeing is what happens after 4 - 5 tries per artist. It doesn't happen overnight.

I still can't believe Hawaiian Dave's luck/skill with his "one and out" philosophy.

Don't believe the hype.

Excellent point John. I keep a running tally in an email that I send to myself -- who, what, where, how much and when to pick it up.

I pretty much do all that already! I guess I just gotta keep at it. I thought you were running on the one and done philosophy too John, thanks!

You'd be surprised on how many artists 'forget' that you had paid. So BEFORE you leave their table, update your list.

I'm so delusional that I try to get one piece for each of the 6 Star Wars movies.

But for SOME artists, it's tough enough to get just 1 !!

Ref 5), I suspect this will be Mike's reaction on entering the hall for the first time and seeing the multitudes -

Ref 6) - I couldn't agree more and one of my main objectives at the con is to catch up with my long-distance mates whom I only see every few years! It's the social, after-hours events that make SDCC special for me! Best,

Royd

LOL you guys might be right.

that's why I ketp my expectations very low. Only targeting two artists right off the back for a commission. One is hopefully set by my emails to him. crosses fingers.

the rest of the weekend to get headshots on my Spidey Jam.

Really looking forward to the show and meeting old and new friends. Now just got to make sure the Wifey is happy while i'm away at the show.

I've had that happen before. Going to pick up a commission that I had already paid for and the artist not remembering. It was really awkward.

I've also had an artist tell me I already paid him when I had no recollection of paying.

Cons can do strange things to your memory so taking notes is a great idea.

I'm really excited about this show even though I may only be there on the weekend. I'm not chasing any commissions so I can just surf the sea of people and see where it takes me.
