Batman lithos by D ick Sprang

Specifically, the S&N'd ones released in the mid-'90s (Secrets of the Batcave, Guardians of Gotham City). I see some framed and matted copies on eBay with the bidding starting at about $4000 each, and an unframed set starting at $700. Do these prices sound reasonable?

Hey Babytoxie,

I own a good number of signed lithos, prints and serigraphs from all kinds of comic artists. There are several factors which will tell you how much a litho is worth.

What quality is the paper?
What quality is the printing process?
Are they created in such a way that it is hard to produce fakes?
Is the artist important/deceased?

I can tell you also that alot of a print's value also depends on how much somebody is willing to pay for it. I have a signed Robert Crumb litho that I paid $800 for. A litho is basically a signed poster, so keep that in mind.

I just took a peek at the ebay auctions in question. It seems there are at least three different versions of these lithos being offered on ebay. A gold, silver and classic edition.

The set of two lithos for $700 is the gold edition and they are limited to an edition of 175. That sounds like a pretty good deal.

The other lithos selling for $4000 are editions of 500, and that sounds suspicious. So I did a search and found this...

http://cartoon.org/store.html

Scroll down the page and you can buy the "Guardians of Gotham" signed print for $100 and it is an edition of 500. Sounds like a good deal from a reputable organization. Unfortunately they are sold out of "Secrets of the Batcave."

The guy pricing them for $4000 on ebay should be flogged. Hope I have helped.

Yup. So much detail. You can see something new every time you look at it.

I have both of these lithos and they are very nice. I prefer the Secrets of the Batcave piece but they are both very cool...highly recommended especially if you like Sprang's art
