House of the Dragon (Game of Thrones) [spoilers]

Searched and didn't see a thread for this...How's that possible?

Anyway, "House of the Dragon" - new Game of Thrones spinoff (if you weren't aware), based on the novel "Fire & Blood", in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series.

After the last couple seasons soiled one of the greatest shows ever, I thought I would skip this. But, caught the first ep and...it's pretty good. Recaptures the feel of the good seasons of GoT. Hearing the familiar song at the end brought it all back.

Now if this or some additional show can at least somewhat retcon or elaborate on the weak ending from GoT, I'd probably get fully reinvested in this universe.

First off, thanks for making this a spoiler thread so we don't have to walk on eggshells while discussing I really liked this first episode...did a good job of setting up the core conflict for the series, or this season anyway. Some highlights include the way the jousting was filmed, the POV bits from the rider was cool. The gruesome birthing scene intercut with the melee fighting was intense. I loved seeing the giant skull of Balerion The Black Dread, a very nice bit of lore porn The production design is excellent as expected, and the roles seem well cast (Matt Smith in particular)...excited to see the rest.

I'm anxious to see what other easter eggs will pop up. Thought it was cool that Viserys revealed that Targaryen secret for the audience. Though, apparently it gets lost over time, in-universe.

More like that can be revealed, to augment or change what we think we know about how GoT ended. Other flashbacks or visions can reveal, perhaps, that the Night King cannot be truly defeated unless he's stopped in the Lands of Always Winter...which just so happens to be where Jon Snow was headed.

Maybe wishful thinking on my part, but they could definitely alter then 'end' of GoT if they want to. What we witnessed could have been a red herring.

I'm still suffering from PTSD after the last 2 seasons. If I'm reading this correctly though it seems safe to jump back in?

Couldn't fault the 1st episode, they packed so much in, and set up the season nicely. Forgot how much I missed GOT content in my life, and glad you are back.

I enjoyed the first episode. Didn't grab me near as much as watching the first GoT episode. They appear to have got all the world building out of the way right at the start this time around. But the previews look really promising.

Yeah, that was pretty interesting, apparently Aegon I was a bit of a Nostradamus in this case. Didn't he also say the Doom of Valyria was predicted by an ancient Targaryen?

Something like that. I think maybe he referred to the dragons themselves as the cause of the Doom. He didn't go into detail, but that's an additional piece of info that I don't think has been revealed before.

Being set about 200 years before 'Game of Thrones', it's hopefully going to be full of content similar to what most of the audience liked from the first several seasons. Well written acting, drama, and political scheming (also, NO Benioff & Weiss this time!). And add MORE fully-grown dragons into the mix, from the very start.

And as I said, this show has the potential to revisit Targaryen madness (there's a lot more Targaryens around) and White Walkers. It's conceivable that with more light shed on one or both, the end of GoT could look a little better in retrospect. That's just me being optimistic though. I've no idea whether they will address either.
