Do artists have a "responsibility" to do sketches at shows/cons?
I would assume that when most people say they hope an artist is at a show, it's because they want to get a sketch/commission from them, not because they want a simple signature or to buy some mass produced art print from them (of course, this isn't 100% accurate, but you get my drift).
My question is, if an artist has a table at a show (as opposed to just walking around like the rest of the masses), is listed as an attending artist, and isn't completely tied up at talks/appearances/other engagments...should they be "required" to do sketches? I don't mean huge commissions, or even paid sketches, per se, but even just little doodles for people? There are probably lots of up and comers, or even big names, that could be in that spot and are willing to do something for people.
Personally, if someone is going to take up space (for lack of a better way of putting it), I think there should be an expectation that they're going to do more than sit around chatting.
